PropelHer's Book Club - Book Summary - Super Senses by Emma Young

On Monday 2 June 2025 PropelHer’s Book Club discussed Super Senses: The Science of Your 32 Senses and How to Use Them by Emma Young.

In this summary of Super Senses by Emma Young.  I’ll be briefly summarising the book to help you to make a decision about whether you should buy a copy of the book for yourself.

Super Senses: The Science of Your 32 Senses and How to Use Them by Emma Young is split into three parts:

Part One: Aristotle’s Five Senses
Part Two: The ‘New’ Senses
Part Three: A Symphony of Sensing

Part One: Aristotle’s Five Senses explores the five senses you’ll most likely be familiar with as they are the five most people are taught – sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. For each sense you’ll learn about how the sense works, how you can lose or improve that sense, how the language your speak might influence a sense, and so much more.

Part Two: The ‘New’ Senses looks at the senses you might not have traditionally classed as a sense or even thought of. This includes things like body mapping, feeling temperature and feeling pain. Again for each sense Emma shares lots of science around how that sense works and why it is important.

In Part Three: A Symphony of Sensing the last few senses are discussed, as well as there being an exploration around whether men and women sense the world differently (spoiler alert – they do) and then Emma sends by sharing her thoughts on what is next in relation to our senses.

That’s it! You now have an idea about what you can expect to find inside of Super Senses: The Science of Your 32 Senses and How to Use Them by Emma Young.
