Grit – Book Review – PropelHer’s Book Club

Grit by Angela Duckworth - Book Summary - PropelHer's Book Club

On Monday 5thOctober 2020 PropelHer’s Book Club discussed Grit: Why passion and resilience are the secrets to success by Angela Duckworth.

In this summary of Grit, I’ll be briefly summarising the book to help you make a decision about whether you should buy a copy of the book for yourself.

The book is split into three parts:
Part I: What grit is and why it matters
Part II: Growing grit from the inside out
Part III: Growing grit from the outside in

In Part I: What grit is and why it matters Angela talks about how her research resulted in her creating the idea of Grit. Having wanted to understand what makes people successful she realised there was more to the equation that just talent and skill. After explaining what Grit is and why it is so important she gives readers the opportunity to take her Grit Scale and find out how gritty there are.

Next, in Part II, now armed with your score you’ll learn about how to grow grit from the inside out. This part of the book focuses on what an individual can do themselves to become grittier. Angela explores four key ways: interest, practice, purpose and hope.

Finally, in Part III, having learnt how to grow grit from the inside out you now learn about growing grit from the outside in. This put more emphasis on your information. The book explores what a parent can do in order to help children grow up gritter, as well as identifying the cultures and environments you can put yourself in in order to become gritter.

There you have it. You now know what you can expect from Grit.

Like the sound of Grit? Why not buy a copy of the book and read it yourself?
