Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Monday Motivation - Fear of Missing Out - PropelHer

Today, more than ever, it is so easy to compare yourself to others. Social media means that day and night we can spy on our ‘friends’ and look at their beautiful presented lives. The truth is that it isn’t real and it isn’t help you move forward with your life.

Here are my tops tips to stop comparing yourself to others.

  1. Take a moment to think “is that really what I would like”?

Often, we focus on the superficial outside of a scenario and forget about the back story. They look gorgeous in their bikini, but they haven’t eaten a single carb in months and have been hitting the gym three times a week. They have a Pinterest perfect house, but infact they never get to be in it because their high powered (but well paid) job keeps them out of the house from 8am-10pm everyday. Always remember that what you are seeing is just a part of the picture. Do you really willing to pay the price for those results?

  1. Remember that social media isn’t real!

I know this one is hard to accept but you need to remember that social media isn’t real. She took 7 pictures to get that perfect angle. Actually, she got her friend/boyfriend/stranger to take 7 photos before being happy. Everyone on social wants to appear to be living the PERFECT life. So they have taken the best photo possible, tweaked it a bit, filtered it and then posted it. And that is if it was their picture in the first place!

  1. If you can’t stop comparing so scrolling.

If seeing someone else’s feed turns you into a green-eyed monster and asking ‘why is my life not that good’ then stop following them! I mean on Facebook you can still be friends and just not get updates on your feed. They never need to even know!

  1. Be thankful for everything you have!

Remember that someone out there would love to have your life. Yes, your life can always be better, but I am pretty sure it is pretty good already. Keep a gratitude journal, jar, list, whatever you prefer. Just make sure that when you are having a moment you can have a look at all the reasons YOUR LIFE IS GREAT!
