ACCESSING INFORMATION ISN’T HARD … APPLYING IT IS!

The internet is an amazing thing. Now you can type in ‘How to xxx’ and you are likely to find blogs, article, videos, tutorials, checklists, webinars and more on the topic. The truth is it has never been easier to access information. People sometimes say why do I need to pay for a coach when I can get the information free online. The truth is that finding information isn’t hard, but applying those lessons is! The reasons being:

  1. TRUSTING THE SOURCE

One of the joys of the internet is anyone can share their advice. This means that often when you are reading/watching/listening to something it may be the first time you have come across that person or company. How can you work out if they are someone you should trust? If you don’t trust them then I can guarantee you aren’t going to commit to applying that new knowledge.

  1. CONTRADICTIONS IN GUIDANCE

With more and more information online there are likely to be people on both sides of the advice. As a coach I have people saying focus on building your list and other saying no focus on building your Facebook group. Use YouTube videos straight into Facebook versus upload the raw file into Facebook. Have a mentor who is one step ahead of you versus have the most successful mentor you can possibly have. Now in this situation, if you equally trust both sources who do you choose?

  1. ONLY PART OF THE STORY

Most of the information on the internet that is free is just offering you part of an individual’s knowledge base. They are saving some of their knowledge for their members or clients. This means you are likely to get some information but not the whole picture of the whole. You get an insight into writing a CV, creating a Facebook ad, writing a business plan or creating a blog. You are accessing the same level of information as everyone else is. So what you are producing is likely to be just like everyone else.

Now ask yourself, what is it that you really want to achieve? Does that information exist online for free? Have I utilised these resources? Have I been successful to date?

The likelihood is the information is available and that you have used some to some degree of success. The question is are you living in Joe/Jo Bloggs territory? And if so are you happy to stay there? Are you fine to access the same free information as everyone else and therefore, get the same average results as everyone else?

If you really want to learn and apply knowledge to be successful, then you need to follow a strategy or plan from one source. This could be through a course or by hiring a coach, like me. The point is: you need to implement one plan that you can wholeheartedly get behind, use and then adjust based on your experiences. Learning through information sources is great, but nothing will replace the real experience.
