Women Supporting Women: How to connect with other supportive women

Women Supporting Women - How to connect with other supportive women

Do you agree that great things happen when women support women? I do, but whilst some women are fortunate to find themselves surrounding my other supportive women, others aren’t.

If you fall into the later and are actively trying to grow your network in a positive manner then keep reading to find out how you can connect with other supportive women.

Facebook Groups

A great way to quickly start connecting with other women is through Facebook Groups. Whilst there are a number of paid groups on Facebook, there are plenty of free Facebook Groups on every topic imaginable. As with everything, it is great to get clear on exactly what type of women you want to meet. Are you looking to connect with people in the same industry, a particular location, similar age or just the same drive? Knowing this will help you choose keywords to help you search.

Lean In Circles

Lean In Circles were created off the back of the book Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. In Lean In, Sheryl shared her experiences in the workplace and was encouraging other women to ‘Lean In’ to their careers. Sheryl was frank about the struggles women still had to face in the workplace and encouraged women to connect with other women to help them on their journey and thus Lean In Circles were born.

There are over 40,000 Lean In Circles around the world. According to the Lean In website “Circles are a place where women can be unapologetically ambitious… they’re a place where we help each other become our very best selves”. Each Circle has its own leader and a self-appointed focus, that could be to do with location, profession etc. As a result, no two Lean In Circles are the same. If you would like to find a Lean In Circle near you can search the directory here.

Membership Communities for Female Entrepreneurs

If you are an entrepreneur, then there is a wide selection of online membership communities you can join. These communities are specifically designed to help female entrepreneurs. This means not only will you be able to connect with other women who are growing a business, but you also get access to resources to help you on your entrepreneurial journey.

My personal advice for when you are choosing a membership community is to think about the community leader(s), the type of women that are attracted to the community and the type of business you have. In an ideal world, you want to find a community that has a leader you find inspiring, a community of women who are going to want to connect with and gain access to resources that are helpful for your business.

Examples of membership communities for Female Entrepreneurs includes the Female Entrepreneur Association and Bossbabe.
