The Urban Monk – Book Review – PropelHer’s Book Club

PropelHer's Book Club - The Urban Monk - Book Summary Review

On Monday 1st June 2020 PropelHer’s Book Club discussed The Urban Monk by Pedram Shojai, OMD.

In this summary of The Urban Monk, I will be briefly summarising the book to help you make a decision about whether you should buy a copy and read the book.

Pedram has built an entire career bringing “ancient wisdom of the East down to earth for regular people here in our towns and cities.” Therefore, the book is designed for the modern urban or suburban people.

Since it is designed for modern urban or suburban people Pedram explores topics that are relevant to modern-day life such as dealing with stress, always feeling tired, struggling with sleep, gaining weight, feeling lonely and never having enough money.

Each chapter of the book is focused on a different topic and he starts the chapter by sharing a story of someone from the real world. The stories are very relatable and even if you don’t see yourself in them in most cases you know someone who has those issues. Then the book will delve into solutions that Pedram has picked up from monks and the Eastern world. As you would expect he recommends a number of different meditations, as well as martial arts, specific things to eat and drink and tuning into mother nature.

Then at the end of the book once Pedram has shared all of his tips and modern hacks he’ll then go back to the person he discussed in the beginning and share the changes they made in their life (often over a period of time) and the results they saw.

Overall this book provides lots of advice for issues that are very common in the modern world. Whilst some may be easier to apply than others (and some you’ll be inclined to try more than others), it definitely provides actionable advice.

Like the sound of The Urban Monk by Pedram Shojai, OMD. Why not buy a copy of the book and read it yourself?
