WHY ISOLATION IS A DREAM-KILLER AND HOW TO CREATE A NETWORK TO SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS

How to create a network to set you up for success

Are you a strong ambitious woman that feels all alone? Don’t have a circle of friends with the same ambition or drive as you? In this post, I’m going to explore why isolation is a dream-killer and how to create a network to set you up for success.

A while back I watch the TEDx talk by Barbara Sher called Isolation is the dream-killer, not your attitude”.  At the time I remember thinking how true her words were. However, after spending an extended period of time home alone whilst recovering from a recent knee operation her words really hit home!

As time has passed by I have become increasingly demotivated and if it wasn’t for my business besties and my mastermind I don’t know what would have happened. That is why having a great network around you is mega important and here are the different types of people you need to be aiming to have in your network to ensure they can really support your progress and success.

INDUSTRY INDIVIDUALS

This is the area most people are good at. You want to be successful in your industry and therefore you know it is important to network with the powerful people and also build a good circle of peers around you. This is great to ensure you are up-to-date in your industry, referred to for opportunities and just generally classed as good practice.

PASSION PALS

These are people who have an interest in the same passions as you. You can make these connections via joining a team, taking classes or attending meetups. This group serve as people who you connect with over a specific reason outside of your work. It is a way for you to be build relationships around something you love and that hopefully all inspires or motivates you. Creating a genuine bond with people outside of work, but within your passions is important.

AMBITION ALLIES

Ambition allies are the people who want to achieve similar things to you. This is what most people class as like-minded people. This is where you connect with people who are moving in the same direction. That could be they want to start their own business, they want to join the C-Suite, they want to become location independent and much more. Having a set of people around you who are striving for the same thing is important because they won’t judge your ambitions if they are bigger than the average (which I hope they are) and when you know you are moving in the same direction was others it is likely to help you move quicker.
