Why you need a money goal

Money on my mind - PropelHer

Do you dream of having more money or being rich? If the answer is yes then you need a money goal. Find out why you need a money goal below.

I created PropelHer to support ambitious women to move forward and create more success in their lives. Now for many more success means more money.

Now as a Brit and a woman talking about money is a double no no! But is an important part of the success puzzle, which is why every year I make sure that PropelHer recommends a money-related book. Last year we read Get Rich, Lucky Bitch by the fabulous Denise Duffield-Thomas, founder of LuckyBitch.com and you will have to stay tuned to see what money book we are reading this year.

Wanting more money is often a reason a client will come to me. They want a promotion, a better-paid job or they are launching a business to increase their money.

They are dreaming of being rich… and one of the questions I ask them is

“How much money do you need to have before you class yourself as rich?”

Lots of people will automatically answer – when I’m a millionaire. I used to think the same until I moved to London where a million pounds will just about buy you a 2 bedroom terraced house. That’s not quite the lifestyle I imagined when I imagined being rich.

When it comes to being rich, it is relative, and it means different things to different people. For example, in The Millionaire Fastlane and DJ talks about the pentamillionaire (so having 5 million) being the new millionaire.

As you can tell ‘rich’ is different to everyone. So you need to take the time to work out what rich means to you.

You should think about:

  • How much would my dream house cost?
  • What cars would you like to drive?
  • What holidays would you like to go on?
  • Where would you buy you food, clothes, furnishing from?
  • What disposable income would you want to spend on parties, dinners and drinks?

For all of these answers, you need to do some research and add actual values. Begin to work out exactly how much your ‘rich’ lifestyle would actually cost you.

Now for some of you that ‘rich’ money goal may feel some way away. But knowing what you are ultimately aiming for is a great place to be in. Now you can set yourself a goal for the next 12 months that will move you closer to the goal than you currently are.

I would love to know in the comments below what your 12-month money goal is and what you ‘RICH” figure is. Please share your figures in the comments below.
