3 Of My Favourite Self Improvement Tips From PropelHer’s Book Club in 2017

Favourite Self Improvement Tips from PropelHer's Book Club in 2017 - PropelHer

This week marked the final session of PropelHer’s Book Club in 2017. If you are not familiar with PropelHer’s Book Club. PropelHer’s Book Club is a women-only non-fiction book club focused on reading for personal development and professional success. You can find out more here.

I thought now would be a good time to look back over the books from the last year and share my favourite self-improvement tips.

Prefer to watch than read? Then check out the video version!

The first tip is from The Power of Habit.

There is a quote in the book that says

“The brain can’t tell the difference between bad and good habits”.

I loved this book, but that quote scared me. Essentially, habits look exactly the same to our brain so once it has been made your body will keep on performing the habit every time is recognizes the trigger. Therefore, it is super important that you don’t teach your body bad habits!

The second tips is from Never Eat Alone.

The books says that

The strength of your network derives as much from the diversity of your relationships as it does from their quality and quantity.”

Now I have always been keen on having a diverse network, but I really hadn’t understood how important “weak ties” were. In a network, you have your best friends, people you speak to regularly and then acquaintances. In Never Eat Alone there was a real emphasis on how having diverse acquaintances really strengthens your position to find out information, be able to contact even more people and essentially be in a strong position.

The third tip was from The 10X Rule.

This was a book that divided the PropelHer readers, but I love it. One quote was that

“Never reduce a target. Instead increase actions”.

I loved the idea that if you aren’t achieving the target look at what else you can do. Do something else, try more things, give it your everything… just don’t default to bringing the goal lower.

Those were 3 of my favourite tips from PropelHer’s Book Club in 2017. However, there was one more quote I wanted to share from The Miracle Morning, which we read back in January. It isn’t really a self-improvement tip but I just loved this quote and really sums up what PropelHer is about.

Hal Elrod said that

“There is nothing that says you have to settle for less than you truly want in any area, just because most people do”

I loved this quote and it has been an inspiration for the whole of the year. You do not have to settle just because others do! Remember that!
